Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. IPC-4553: Immersion Silver Drawing & Lot Record Guide

Use the adopted IPC-4553 revision to align silver-finish drawings, coating reports and incoming inspection. Keep layer measurements, appearance and performance evidence connected to the ordered lot.

At a glance: An immersion-silver coating specification describes a finish requirement. It is not a certification of the complete assembly, and a thickness reading alone cannot characterize every environmental or soldering behavior.

Specify the finish for the actual connection

Agree the revision and scope

Identify the exact standard revision and any customer requirement in the purchase documents. Resolve conflicts with the fabrication drawing before release. The linked 2009 Chinese preview provides historical scope context; use the complete controlled document required by the order.

Check the standards publisher for document status when preparing a new specification. Do not assume a web article is the latest revision or that the word compliant supplies the full acceptance plan. Purchasing and receiving inspection need the same documented basis.

Make the measurement report traceable

Record the board or coupon, lot, location, method and units for each result. A thin silver deposit needs an appropriate measurement setup and calibration. Preserve the original readings along with the reported summary and any uncertainty relevant to the decision.

The three-reading workbench converts units and displays mean and range for one measurement basis. It does not define sampling, validate calibration or decide compliance. Do not merge results from unrelated lots or different measurement setups merely to produce a favorable average.

Treat appearance and performance separately

Define the required appearance criteria and how a suspect lot will be evaluated. Tarnish color is not a universal test for solderability, and a bright surface does not establish resistance to every corrosive environment. Keep the inspection question precise.

Solderability evidence concerns the intended PCB assembly use. Environmental testing concerns a specified exposure and product configuration. Agree the applicable methods and acceptance basis separately, including whether test specimens represent the supplied bare boards or the assembled product.

Close the receiving-review loop

Request the finish record and packaging history required by the order. Identify discrepancies before the boards are mixed into inventory. Hold ambiguous results for clarification rather than silently substituting a different standard, unit or storage assumption.

Send PCBSync the drawing and expected shipment documentation with the inquiry. Retain any agreed exception with the affected quantity and revision. A clear receiving package helps engineering and procurement distinguish an administrative gap from a physical finish issue requiring investigation.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Adopted IPC-4553 revision and finish drawing notes.

02

Required layer measurement method and units.

03

Lot, coupon and measurement-location traceability.

04

Sampling and appearance acceptance requirements.

05

Packaging and exposure history requested at receipt.

06

Solderability or environmental evidence where applicable.

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

IPC-4553 FAQ

Can the tool determine IPC-4553 compliance?

No. It converts entered values and summarizes three readings. The actual specification, sampling and evidence control acceptance.

Can I accept a shipment from its color?

Use the agreed criteria and relevant evidence. Color alone is not a complete finish assessment.

Does this page reproduce the latest full standard?

No. Confirm the publisher status and obtain the revision adopted by your project.

Apply IPC-4553 to a project

How are immersion-silver condition, storage and solderability evidence controlled for this board lot?

Define the interface

Soldering, wire bonding, contact wear and via protection need different evidence. A finish name by itself does not define every requirement.

Try a practical decision

Is an XRF thickness result alone a complete acceptance decision for a finished board?
