Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

DFA for PCB Assembly: Review Parts, Placement and Process Access

Prepare a design-for-assembly review that focuses on the populated board. Check the relationship between components, footprints, handling and inspection before the design reaches production.

Prototype through production · scope and schedule confirmed after file review

At a glance: PCB DFA examines how the chosen parts can be assembled and verified on the board; it complements fabrication review and does not replace electrical design validation.

Plan the work before releasing the files

Verify part-to-footprint consistency

Compare the exact BOM part and package drawing with the footprint, pin numbering and orientation. Identify approved alternatives and do-not-fit positions clearly.

A footprint library name is not sufficient evidence of compatibility. Check the particular package variant and the manufacturer information used to create the land pattern.

Review access across the assembly route

For PCB assembly, consider printing, placement, soldering, support, inspection and rework access. Include tall parts, board edges and connectors that can obstruct later operations.

For mixed or double-sided assemblies, show both sides and the proposed sequence. Components that fit electrically may still create a difficult nozzle, fixture or test-probe access problem.

Make review findings actionable

Record each issue with a location, proposed change and decision owner. Separate required corrections from options that trade cost, density or serviceability. Retain accepted changes in the assembly release record and define what to check during first article inspection before repeating the build.

After changes are approved, regenerate the manufacturing outputs and confirm that the revised files remain consistent. Use the readiness brief to request a focused review of open assembly questions rather than treating the checklist as an automatic pass.

Keep the review concrete

Include these requirements in your enquiry

01

Exact part packages are verified

02

Pin numbering and polarity are clear

03

Do-not-fit variants are documented

04

Both-side process access is reviewed

05

Inspection and rework needs are considered

06

Approved changes are reflected in released files

Mark unresolved items explicitly. Ask the quotation to identify proposed exceptions, required customer approvals and any inspection or special-process charges that remain open.

DFA PCB FAQ

Is DFA only a spacing check?

No. It includes part compatibility, orientation, handling, process access and other assembly requirements.

Does completing this checklist approve the design?

No. It prepares the review inputs; engineering evaluation of the actual files is still required.
