Notes:
For PCB fabrication, we require PCB design file in Gerber RS-274X format (most preferred), *.PCB/DDB (Protel, inform your program version) format or *.BRD (Eagle) format. For PCB assembly, we require PCB design file in above mentioned format, drilling file and BOM. Click to download BOM template To avoid file missing, please include all files into one folder and compress it into .zip or .rar format.

Patch Antenna PCB: Dimensions, Feed & Stack-up

Use a rectangular patch estimate to start a model, then resolve the feed, ground and installed structure.

Stack-up, test scope, price and schedule confirmed after file review.

Rectangular PCB sample with patterned antenna elements and feed lines. Material and RF performance require project records.

Key distinction: The rectangular-patch calculator is a first-order dimensional model; it does not calculate feed position, gain or bandwidth.

Textbook first estimate for a simple rectangular microstrip patch. Enter a construction-specific Dk, not a universal brand value. Feed location, ground boundary, mask, losses and enclosure are not solved.

Dimensional model and limits

W = λ0/2 × √[2/(Dk+1)]; εeff = (Dk+1)/2 + (Dk−1)/(2√[1+12H/W]); ΔL = 0.412H × [(εeff+0.3)(W/H+0.264)]/[(εeff−0.258)(W/H+0.8)]; L = λ0/(2√εeff) − 2ΔL.

Input guards: 0.1–100 GHz, Dk 2–12, H 0.05–5 mm, H/λ0 ≤0.03 and W/H ≥1. These are conservative model limits, not a performance guarantee. Full-wave simulation and measured tuning are needed for the released geometry.

Design tips and manufacturing decisions

Patch Antenna PCB: what to resolve before fabrication

Separate patch dimensions from feed design

The tool estimates width and resonant length with a simple fringing correction. Enter construction-specific Dk and dielectric height. Feed location, inset dimensions, probe inductance and matching require the chosen structure to be modeled.

Design output: Band and polarization requirement. Record the decision and the open questions before sending the fabrication package.

Treat the ground and dielectric as part of the antenna

Control substrate thickness, copper geometry and the ground boundary. A cover, adhesive or radome changes the electromagnetic environment. Material substitutions can require dimensional and matching revisions.

Build output: Exact substrate and dielectric height; Patch / feed / ground geometry. Keep those requirements in the drawing and RF review record.

Validate the polarization and radiation result

Define whether the target is linear or circular polarization and record the appropriate pattern or axial-ratio requirements. Compare simulation with measured PCB prototyping results in the final assembly. A resonant S11 dip is only one piece of evidence.

Acceptance output: Pattern, matching and enclosure tests. Agree the method, sample state and evidence required before ordering.

Four requirements for this enquiry

01

Band and polarization requirement

02

Exact substrate and dielectric height

03

Patch / feed / ground geometry

04

Pattern, matching and enclosure tests

Attach the current fabrication files and drawing revision. Mark open questions, permitted alternatives and requested delivery timing. For assembly, add BOM and placement files. Ask for exceptions and additional test costs to be identified in the response.

Answers for design and procurement

Patch Antenna PCB FAQ

Can this patch antenna pcb be sized from frequency alone?

The rectangular-patch calculator is a first-order dimensional model; it does not calculate feed position, gain or bandwidth. Use the calculator for its stated approximation and validate the actual structure.

What should I include in a patch antenna pcb quotation?

Include band and polarization requirement, exact substrate and dielectric height, patch / feed / ground geometry, pattern, matching and enclosure tests, current fabrication files, quantity and desired arrival date. Identify any assembly and testing scope separately.

Do the photographs prove antenna performance?

No. They show physical circuit construction. Frequency coverage, gain, material identity and qualification require the corresponding project and test records.

How do I request an engineering quotation?

Prepare current fabrication files, the proposed stack-up, quantity and requested delivery. Include material and inspection requirements. For controlled-impedance work, add target impedance, signal mode, controlled layers, reference planes and permitted geometry changes. Mark open questions for review. The planner is optional; you can request a quote with the information you have.
